No Ban, No Wall: A Resistance and Solidarity Vigil

Organized by Vigilant Love and South Asians for Justice - Los Angeles

Japanese American Cultural & Community Center (JACCC) Plaza, 26 Jan 2017

Let us become a big circle of light. Let us become the spark that will carry us through to the next part of this journey. Can you go towards the center? Can you create a way to create more room in our circle? As we imagine this resistance. As we imagine this light.

Here in Los Angeles. Here in California. Here in the United States of America. We are about the light. We are about the people.

How can we be a circle of light? Swirling, beginning, remaining. Carrying on the resistance that began long before we arrived. Carrying on the resistance that will continue as we go. How can we as people see each other? Build this light? Be about each other?

Who is not in the circle? Let us use Isela’s word: Presenté! Presenté! Presenté! How can we use the word of the poem? Inshallah! Inshallah! Inshallah! How can we use the word peace? Peace! Peace! Resistance. Who will you invite next to join you in this circle of light?

Breathe in. And exhale. One more deep breath in. And exhale.
